Beneficial Back Walk massage
Back Walk massage is believed to have its origins in India, having been developed by the Kalari Martial Artists of Kerala India. Used in various indigenous Asian massage systems, Back Walk massage is a modality adopted by the Burmese, Chinese, Japanese and Thai, among others including Hawaiian Lomi Lomi.
Using the heel, sesamoid, arch and/or whole plantar surface of foot, Back Walk massage enables a greater amount of compression force and tension to be applied to a wider area, than hand massage. It is ideal for massaging larger muscles (gluteus, trapezoid) and is thought to be less stressful on body.
Back Walk massage also helps the postural muscles to strengthen, opens the hips and thoracic area, and stimulates the energy meridians as defined in Traditional Chinese Medicine.
